Docking Station USB Not Working Fix

The docking station connects to the Lenovo ThinkPad T16 Gen 2 but USB ports on the dock do not work. This is a common issue with Intel Thunderbolt 4 dock initialisation after Windows 11 updates change the Thunderbolt driver or security settings.

Fix 1 — Approve Dock in Intel Thunderbolt Software
Look for the Thunderbolt icon in the system tray. Click it to open Intel Thunderbolt software. If the dock shows as “Unapproved device”, click Approve. Set to “Always connect” to prevent future prompts.
Fix 2 — Update Thunderbolt Drivers via Lenovo Vantage
Open Lenovo Vantage → System Update → check for and install Thunderbolt driver and firmware updates. Restart and reconnect the dock after updates complete.
Fix 3 — Reset Thunderbolt Controller
- Disconnect the dock from the ThinkPad T16 Gen 2
- Shut down the laptop completely
- Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the dock
- Power on — the Thunderbolt controller reinitialises during boot
“Approving the dock in the Thunderbolt software was all it took to get USB working on my ThinkPad T16 Gen 2 dock.” — Zainul, Putrajaya
