Thunderbolt 5 Not Working Fix

A Thunderbolt 5 device does not appear when plugged into the HP ZBook Fury 16 G11. The Intel Core i9 14900HX includes the Intel Thunderbolt 5 controller, but this controller requires dedicated driver, firmware, and security approval before external devices function correctly.

Fix 1 — Update Intel Thunderbolt 5 Driver and Firmware
Open HP Support Assistant and check for Thunderbolt driver and firmware updates. Install both in order — firmware first, then driver. Restart after each. The Thunderbolt 5 controller on the i9 14900HX requires matched firmware and driver versions to operate correctly.
Fix 2 — Approve Device in Intel Thunderbolt Software
When the device is connected, look for a Thunderbolt notification in the taskbar. Click it and approve the device. If no notification appears, open the Intel Thunderbolt software manually from the Start menu and approve any pending devices.
Fix 3 — Check BIOS Thunderbolt Security Level
- Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS Setup Utility
- Navigate to Advanced → Thunderbolt Options
- Set Thunderbolt Security Level to “User Authorization” if it is set to “No Security” or “Secure Connect”
- Save and exit, then reconnect the Thunderbolt device
