Microphone Echo Fix

Call participants hear an echo or reverb when speaking on the ASUS ROG Zephyrus M16 GU604. The Intel Core i9 13900H model uses a Realtek microphone array with echo cancellation, but microphone boost settings and Dolby Atmos processing can undermine the cancellation and introduce audible echo.

Fix 1 — Set Microphone Boost to 0 dB
- Right-click speaker icon → Sound settings → More sound settings
- Recording tab → Microphone Array (Realtek) → Properties
- Levels tab → set Microphone Boost to 0.0 dB
- Click Apply and test a call recording
Fix 2 — Disable Audio Enhancements
Same Microphone Properties → Enhancements tab. Check “Disable all enhancements” or manually uncheck Noise Suppression and Acoustic Echo Cancellation if these are listed separately. Some enhancement stacks on the Zephyrus M16 conflict with each other and produce echo instead of removing it.
Fix 3 — Disable Dolby Atmos During Calls
Open Dolby Access (search in Start). Switch spatial sound off or set to Stereo. The Dolby Atmos virtualiser adds reflections to the speaker output that the microphone picks up as echo. Turning off Dolby Atmos for the duration of a call eliminates this source.
“Setting microphone boost to 0 dB and disabling Dolby Atmos during calls fixed the echo issue on my ROG Zephyrus M16 completely.” — Shahril, Cyberjaya
