The NVIDIA RTX 500 Ada GPU is missing from the Dell Precision 3490, so professional apps fall back to Intel Arc graphics. The Intel Core Ultra 7 165H workstation runs hybrid graphics, and a failed NVIDIA driver or a BIOS graphics setting is the usual reason the GPU disappears.
Fix 1 — Check the BIOS Graphics Mode
Restart and press F2 to enter BIOS. Set the graphics or display mode to Hybrid or Discrete so the NVIDIA RTX 500 is enabled, then save with F10. An Integrated-only setting hides the GPU on the Precision 3490.
Fix 2 — Clean Reinstall the NVIDIA Driver
- Boot into Safe Mode and run DDU to remove the NVIDIA driver
- Restart normally
- Install the NVIDIA RTX Enterprise driver from Dell Support for Precision 3490
- Restart and check Device Manager
Fix 3 — Update the BIOS and Chipset
Run Dell Command Update and install the latest BIOS and Intel chipset drivers for the Precision 3490. These updates fix hybrid graphics enumeration so the NVIDIA RTX 500 is consistently detected at boot.
Fix 4 — Verify in Task Manager
Open Task Manager → Performance to confirm both the Intel Arc and NVIDIA RTX 500 appear. If the RTX 500 is now listed, assign your pro app to it in Settings → System → Display → Graphics on the Precision 3490.
