Trackpad Erratic Fix

The cursor on the HP EliteBook 845 G11 jumps around, selects text, or clicks on its own. The AMD Ryzen 7 PRO 8840U laptop uses a precision touchpad, and palm contact, a high sensitivity, or charger interference is the usual cause of the erratic behaviour.

Fix 1 — Lower Sensitivity and Enable Palm Rejection
Settings → Bluetooth and devices → Touchpad. Set the sensitivity to Medium or Low and ensure palm rejection options are on. This stops the EliteBook 845 G11 reacting to palm brushes while you type.
Fix 2 — Reinstall the Precision Touchpad Driver
- Device Manager → Human Interface Devices
- Uninstall the I2C HID or precision touchpad device
- Restart so Windows reinstalls it
- Install the HP touchpad driver from HP Support
Fix 3 — Test on Battery and Clean the Pad
Unplug the charger and use the laptop on battery. If the jumping stops, use the original HP adapter or a grounded outlet. Also wipe the touchpad clean and dry, as moisture and grease cause erratic input on the EliteBook 845 G11.
“The jumping only happened on a cheap charger. Switching back to the HP adapter fixed the erratic trackpad on my EliteBook 845 G11.” — Azlina, Klang
