Keyboard Backlight Timeout Too Short Fix

The keyboard backlight on the HP Pavilion Plus 14 switches off after only a few seconds of not typing. The Intel Core 7 150U laptop sets a short backlight idle timeout to save battery, and it can be lengthened or disabled in the BIOS rather than being a fault.

Fix 1 — Change the Timeout in BIOS
Restart and press F10 to enter BIOS. Under Advanced, find Backlit Keyboard Timeout and set a longer interval or Never. Save with F10. This is the direct control for how long the Pavilion Plus 14 backlight stays on after you stop typing.
Fix 2 — Use the Backlight Brightness Key
- Press the keyboard backlight key (often F4 or F5)
- Cycle through the brightness levels
- This keeps it visible but does not change the timeout
- Combine with the BIOS setting for a long, bright backlight
Fix 3 — Update HP Firmware and Drivers
If the BIOS timeout option is missing, run HP Support Assistant and install BIOS and HP System Information driver updates for the Pavilion Plus 14. An update can expose the backlight timeout control on models where it was hidden.
