The HP ZBook Studio G10 Thunderbolt 4 dock is not detected after connecting, or docked displays and peripherals stop working intermittently. The Intel Core i9 13900H model has two Thunderbolt 4 ports, but dock detection and stable operation depend on the Thunderbolt controller driver and dock firmware being in sync.

Authorise the Dock in Thunderbolt Software Check first
When the dock is connected for the first time, a notification from Thunderbolt Software may appear asking to approve the device. Click Approve or Always Connect. Without this authorisation, the dock remains disconnected even though it is physically plugged in.
Update Thunderbolt Controller Driver and Software
HP Support for ZBook Studio G10 → search by serial number → download Intel Thunderbolt Controller Driver and Thunderbolt Software. Install both, restart, and reconnect the dock. The Thunderbolt Software will notify you if a dock firmware update is available.
Check Thunderbolt Security Level in BIOS
Restart → F10 to enter HP BIOS → Security → Thunderbolt Security Level. Ensure it is set to “No Security” or “Secure Connect” with user approval. A “DisplayPort and USB only” setting blocks Thunderbolt dock enumeration entirely.
Update BIOS via HP Support Assistant
HP Support Assistant → Updates. Install any available BIOS update for ZBook Studio G10. HP BIOS updates include Thunderbolt port controller firmware updates that improve dock detection reliability and prevent intermittent disconnections.
“Updating the Thunderbolt controller driver from HP Support and approving the dock in Thunderbolt Software fixed the dock detection on my ZBook Studio G10.” — Saifuddin, Damansara
