HDR Washed Out Fix

After enabling HDR on the Lenovo Legion Slim 5 Gen 8, the desktop and web pages look pale and grey instead of crisp. The AMD Ryzen 7 7840HS model uses an IPS panel where HDR is really a compatibility mode, and the washed-out look comes from the SDR brightness mapping rather than a fault.

Fix 1 — Adjust SDR Content Brightness
Settings → System → Display → HDR. Drag the SDR content brightness slider up until the desktop whites look clean. This rebalances SDR against the HDR range on the Legion Slim 5 Gen 8.
Fix 2 — Turn HDR Off for Desktop Use
- Settings → System → Display → HDR → toggle Use HDR off
- The panel returns to its native, accurate SDR look
- Re-enable HDR only when launching HDR video or a game
Fix 3 — Update the AMD Radeon Driver
Install the AMD Radeon driver from Lenovo Support for Legion Slim 5 Gen 8. In AMD Adrenalin → Display → Custom Color, you can fine-tune saturation and brightness so HDR and SDR both look correct on the built-in panel.
